5/10/2015 Alice Town, North Bimini Bahama
Wake up Ross and Gigi,
Looks like it will be another beautiful day here in the Bahamas, Happy Mother's Day to everyone!!
Ross and I will take the dingy and go snorkeling today, I believe that is the plan for today. It is nice just to sit have my coffee and not have to worry about anything. I know this past weekend my dad has had a coin show at Grapevine, TX convention center.
Here is a little history about North Bimini, the island of North Bimini is about 7 miles long and is extremely narrow and flat. Most of the island is less than 700 feet in width, and nowhere does it have an elevation greater than 15-20 feet above sea level. The main settlement and sport fishing center is Alice Town.
One of Ernest Hemingway's favorite haunts was Alice Town on North Bimini, where he enjoyed the big game fishing of the area and the camaraderie of the Compleat Angler Hotel, Bar. Sadly the hotel burned to the ground in early 2006.
Another point about the Bimini's was that Juan Ponce de Leon passed this way in 1513 looking for the Fountain of Youth.
Bimini got its head start in the 1600's in the high day of piracy.
Ross and I took a dingy ride to South Bimini Bahama which is a short dingy ride down and saw a real nice Marina, Bimini Bay Resort, with a fancy pool, and cabanas. Ross had his new depth gauge on his dingy and thank goodness because there are many shallow areas around here. We saw a stingray swim away.
You can see the different depths here with the white sand and some either coral or grassy bottom.
The water is so much bluer here.
Ross and I in the dingy, enjoying the ride around the island.
Here are some of the homes we saw near Bimini Bay Resort.
This was a fancy stealth boat it looks like something James Bond would drive unbelieveable it is from the British Virgin Islands.
This was a GTX50 really neat catamaran.
Here I am with Gigi.
Here is our dingy
We went on shore to let Gigi go to the bathroom and we came across this sign No Dog Pooping, how funny is that!!
This is the weird funny shape hottub!
Cabana (Where is the boy with my drink) we were just visiting.
They get around here on golf carts.
Airplane landing on the ocean.
Brown Marina here we are.
Gigi enjoying the dingy ride, and the cool ocean breeze.
North Bimini Bahama.
Back to our dock.
This was our neighbors Gail and Cameron getting their dingy off their boat, pretty neat.
Found out they own the marina at Nanny Cay in the Virgin Islands that we rented a boat from years ago.
Seaplane had landed.
